Problem with bearing

I purchased this Ingersoll Rand 3101G Air Die Grinder last year. On the second use the bearing got noisy and it sounds like it's coming apart. I keep it lubricated and use dry air. I surely hope IR is going to replace it as I could have gotten another tool at this quality level for half the price. I need dependable tools at my business.

90 degree grinder

I do collision work and in my opinion not comfortable for everyday use. Seemed to work fine but was hard to control speed. Wants to go 0 to 100. Durability seems good, I’ve had the straight version for years and still going.

That nut always come lose

Love this and would have been 5 stars but that nut always come lose so I put 3 tacks around the nut don't have the issue no more I've had mine for a while now hasn't lost its power and I use it daily for Grinding Im a welder. I would oil daily if you use it like me. I like Ingersoll better then the husky one that's a little cheaper and some of the parts are plastic and I like the all metal ones if I can find them

Nice tool.

Works as it should. I liked that it had a plastic cover around the tool body as using it, it gets very cold on ur hand from the air running through it as oppose to just a bare metal housing.

Compact yet powerful!

Great little air grinder that is solid and well made. Fits nicely in the hand, grips the cutter tightly. Overall it’s a great tool, priced right.

Going on my second unit

I bought this for a first grinder because of the brand name and heard of this exact grinder and was impressed so decided to make the purchase. I purchased the first one of these at my local tool store. Opening the box and installing the attachments i liked the feel of the grinder itself even before using it. Using the die grinder, it's sort of loud but not deafening where you can't hear yourself when your done but not super quiet where you can't be heard at all using it. The exhaust blows out the rear which is okay and doesn't get very cold in your hands when your using it due to the rubber grip and like the greaseable head where you can grease the head and prolong the life of it but that you need a special tool for. It is also fast, the RPM which is 20000 is mid-grade. It does stop sometimes and any hard pressure will stop the head from spinning which in turn could damage the gear inside. I used it on a daily basis and was working fine for roughly 2 years before the gears inside worn out to nothing. I am not exactly sure what caused it but the tool was greased and oil daily so it didn't appear to be that. I do believe it may have condensation in our air lines that caused the problem. I search and purchased a few other brands and never liked the feel or the speed. I found out this model was discontinued through the manufacture so i went on Amazon and found it. I purchased my second one and enjoy the feel of the tool again. Same tool, same thing as before. I just hope this one lasts a bit longer because i don't want to keep buying them every two years because that is too much money. If it does decide to go again, i will update this review but also will not purchase again. Even though i enjoy the grinder, there is always better out there. If your looking for a first grinder that will offer you a semi-quiet, durable, fast for a decent price. I would make the purchase but if your looking for exceptional quality, i would keep looking. I would recommend this product!

Not Much Thought Put Into This Product

What do you expect for $90? A little better machining of the trigger to make its operation smooth instead of sticking when you try to release the trigger lock. Also the chuck should have more than one set of flats on it so the wrenches don't have to be 180 degrees apart when you want to loosen it to remove the bit. Finally the required lubrication tool and the required lubricant for the gearing in the head is not mentioned anywhere in the tiny 2 page instructions. If they are going to also include a useless 50 page safety book, they could at least have added a few words on the 2 page instructions to specify the correct lubrication tool and lubricant part numbers.

Very satisfied, so far.

I am mostly impressed with the wrenches. These are heavier duty than previous colette wrenches that easily distort. I have seen reviews where users have difficulty inserting and removing the shanks. All that is needed is to rap the loosened colette with one of the wrenches to release the 'fingers'.

Not worth it

Honestly I’m very disappointed with this. Pros: feels good in the hand Decent build quality on some parts Cons: The safety lever thats pushed to active the trigger isn’t aligned and grinds again the tool so until it’s worn out it’s going to be a pain to use because it gets stuck so often And good luck getting any bits out of the tool the collet is such crap that once you put a bit in its not coming out easy, even once you loosen the collet nut it retains the bit you’ll have to grab pliers to get it out and some can be quite hard to grab onto and remove. Honestly I expected better from an IR tool especially for the cost my cheaper die grinders and half the price aren’t nearly as much of a pain to use

Good grinder

This is a great grinder for the price. The only con is that it's a little noisier than I like. Have to wear the ear muffs.
