Poorly labeled and packaged, once you solved the puzzle, it works, albeit I do not understand all that excitement
W.L.Fuller company likes to make it confusing. They have a catalogue online, but C10M is not listed there. It appears that it is the same countersink/drill as "C10". The tapered drill diameter is 13/64", and the outside diameter of the countersink is 7/16". The reason why these numbers are important is because "wood screw #10" defines the diameter of a screw but does not define the parameters of the countersink or drill. W.L.Fuller has several recommended options for screw #10. The head bore can be either 7/16 or 1/2, and drill diameter can be either 13/64' of 3/16'. The recommended countersink number for screws #10 is C102. Now, use the information listed on Amazon ("C10M number 10") which does not really tell you much and does not match W.L.Fuller's catalogue, and figure from this information alone which pair of diameters you will get. If you plan to use a plug cutter to cut plugs to cover the holes from screws, you need to know if you should order the plug cutter with diameter 7/16" or 1/2". In this case, it is 7/16". I was stupid to think that this would be the "recommended option" of 1/2" countersink diameter, and ended up ordering a not matching plug cutter. This is not the seller's fault (or not entirely seller's). W.L.Fuller does not know how to consistently mark and package their tools to make it clear and simple for the end customer. Each distributor has to to it on its own, and a lot of information gets lost along the way. This seller sells them in packages labelled as "shop aids", lists at "#10 countersink by W.L.Fuller", and imprints a part number which is not W.L.Fuller's part number. Woodcraft sells W.L.Fuller's items in plain plastic bags, again with almost no description. Figuring out what you are getting can be a chore, if not a puzzle. Performance-wise, they are OK. I saw somewhere a comment from the manufacturer that for hard woods they recommend stainless steel option. This, apparently, is recommended for soft woods, such as pine and fir. I used it for maple it was struggling, but did the job. I had hard times making the countersink stay put on the drill bit. I seemed to not being able to tighten the screws strongly enough to hold even though it felt that I may break either the tiny screws or the Allen wrench if I push harder. The cut looks clean and precise in diameter. Also, the stop collar that is included is a nice feature. You need stop collar to limit the depth of the cut. The downside is that the stop collar is relatively thick, so it is essential a binary system - either you put in on, or off, the adjustment range is quite small. The idea, apparently, is not so much to define the depth of the hole, but enable the user to switch from cutting deep holes for wooden plugs to just small depression for countersinking the head of the screws. Also one should note that in the diameter of 7/16" and above, the options are fairly limited. For example, the popular (and inexpensive) Dewalt set is a smaller diameter. I have a set of 3 Dewalt countersinks and cannot say that they are any worse, even though the 3 of them cost less than one W.L.Fuller's countersink. To summarize, it is a little old school, especially when it comes to labeling and packaging, but it works, better in soft woods than in hard woods. It is good that W.L.Fuller offers them in diameters required for bigger size screws. It is good that it is not a low end junk, but I could not immediately notice the difference with big box stores brands which would warrant much higher price. I would love to be able to order the correct size easily, and I would love to have them in nice containers, e.g., in small boxes similar to those used by Feud for their router bits.
