Good feeder but only for the smallest birds
As far as squirrel proof goes, they had the latch open in less than 5 minutes. But there was an easy fix. A 2-3/8" spring loaded carabiner that passes through the cage and in front of the latch seems to have them locked out for the past week. The cage openings keep out the squirrels and anything but the smallest of birds. The chickadees and house wrens seem to be able to get through. The tit mouses would do it, but, weren't happy about it. Cardinals and bluejays aren't happy about putting their head through the openings. I expanded the opening around the tube feeder ports and this seems to let a few more birds in like the downy woodpeckers. The larger birds might learn to use it. All in all, the feeder is well made and helps keep the gray squirrel damage down and keeps them from monopolizing the feed. A few minor modifications expands the range of birds it can serve. But, it might be a trade off when the smaller red squirrels appear. hope you find this useful.

Fantastic bird feeder
This is a super sturdy bird feeder and squirrels can't get to the food. I had one that a bear destroyed and I've been hunting for this feeder for two years.

Locking Latch too big, no instructions
Zero Instructions on how the latch locks the lid to the frame. Following the pictures of the feeder on the web, it shows the gray tab fits between the bars. The plastic tab on the feeder I received is way too wide making it impossible to lock the lid and I had to modify it. The top hanging hook is too short causing you to tip the feeder when hanging it and seed falls out. The lid was off center and I had to bend it to make the oversized latch line up. Finally, they want you to register the feeder at "thenuttery.com". They do NOT sell bird feeders.

Definitely Squirrel-proof
I bought two of these feeders in 2015, one for our home and one for our cabin. The finches, siskins, nuthatches, titmice and chickadees love it. These are the only feeders I've ever owned that are squirrel-proof. The roof is slanted so it's difficult for them to sit up there. The gaps in the cage are too small (2" x 2 1/4") for the squirrel to get his head in and the seed tube is 2 1/2" inside the cage, so his paws can't reach it. Best of all is the clamp that keeps the top secure. In the 7 years I've owned them no squirrel has been able to get to the seed. They'll get sit on the top, hang on the sides, hang under the feeder and then give up. Raccoons are another matter. They can't pop the top, but their paws are long enough to reach the seed, so you'll need a baffle. The plastic tube is pretty thin and the feeder points just pop into holes in the tube, so they'll eventually start slipping out. That said, the feeders have held up for 7 years. I ordered a replacement for our home feeder today, although I could probably super glue the ports back on and get another year or two out of it.
