Great, but also use cut resistant Chef's gloves

I love this. It's not fancy, but it doesn't have to be. It cuts the veggies so thin that my soups are packed with flavor. I love it that way. Also, you get it cutting both ways, not just one like typical mandolins. I move the veggie back and forth and it cuts them twice as fast. But I highly recommend you buy cut resistant chef's gloves. I cut the end of my finger off on an old mandolin several years ago and then purchased the gloves. They have saved me from further injuries. Plus, you can wash them in running water after you are done. I don't even take them off. I rinse the finger parts, pat them dry in a hand towel and put them away.

awesome tool

sharp blade, clean cuts....not adjustable plastic piece to hold food not useful, doesn't seem to fit need to use blade resistant gloves

Superior to the more expensive adjustable version

I got this model as well as the adjustable version which costs $5 more. This model is far superior. The base material is thicker which makes the unit more sturdy to produce consistent slices. The adjustable unit is more flimsy and will bend in the middle, producing inconsistent slices. The double edge of this unit makes for a faster and easier workflow. While the adjustable unit jams on the return stroke due to poorly designed blade support, this unit simply produces an extra slice of food. The cut thickness is fixed at about 1mm so that must be considered when buying. It is approximately the same as setting 2 on the adjustable model. It is worth noting that the thinner setting 1 barely works on the adjustable model because it’s so flimsy that the food just binds on the blade in that setting. So in practice both units will produce equally thin slices. Obviously this unit cannot produce thicker slices like setting 3 and 4 on the adjustable model. Overall excellent value for $15.

Nice for thin slices

I would’ve given this five stars. It does not adjust it it only makes very thin slices. What I really wanted was an adjustable one so I wouldn’t have to change the blades. Was a little disappointed this one was not adjustable but I kept it anyway it does make great potato chips it’s great for cutting radishes. If you want a slicer that makes thin cuts this is the one for you! The one I had before was damaged I thought I was getting the same thing but not, still a great tool. I kept it and will still look for a hand held adjustable one.

Great but Ceramic Blade gets DULL

This is my second vegetable harp cutter by this manufacturer. It works great! But I am not giving it 5 stars because it didn't hold up to a year of slicing english cucumbers and small onions. Ceramic Blade got dull and I cut myself. I like the compact size- it fits nicely in a drawer. Other styles were huge and more expensive.

Not that impressed

Nice and sharp, and it’s fine in the dishwasher. But I’m just not that impressed. The plastic holder is quite cumbersome to use.

Perfect for homemade crispy potato chips

I have been looking for a mandolin that would slice super thin. And this one fits the bill perfectly. Super super sharp, so be very very careful. I can now slice my potatoes is record time and they make the best potato chips. I would recommend this item for this purpose. It would make super thin cucumber slices for sandwiches and radishes & carrots for salads. Shreds cabbage for Cole slaw. Can't wait to try haystack onion rings. It might be a little too thin for other things like tomatoes or where you would need thicker slices.

Red slicer with guard

The blade is extremely sharp and does a great job slicing cucumbers. I saw other people's review that they were unable to change the blade for thinner or thicker slices. The problem lies in the bad instruction manual. There is no such thing as a dial. I went on YouTube to have the operation explained. There is a 'bar' that runs crosswise on the back of the slicer. One has to twist that bar, like a little rolling log and it will tell you the thickness of the slice that will cut the vegetable, from 1 - 4. This feature of adjusting the slice thickness is awesome, as you can cut from really thin cucumber slices to thicker potato slices for making roasted potato chips.
