Probably worth the hassle

This is the review that I wish that I could have read before buying - not because I regret buying it, but because the installation process is more taxing than I expected. I have exposed wood beams in the midst of a recessed plank ceiling, and no overhead lighting, so I needed to get a swag light. This one is beautiful - the glass is thick and has interesting swirls, and I like the contrast with the darker fittings. As others have noted, the thumb scroll on/off switch is next to the plug, at the very end of the cable, for some reason. Between this and the light not being dimmable, I bought a smart light bulb, because who has time for any of that. Oh, and there is an obnoxiously long amount of cable and chain. The chain runs nearly the entire length of the cable and it seems like it's 20' long. I didn't measure it but I did have to remove all of the plastic packaging and the copper grounding wire and then thread the cable wire several times after attaching the link to the top of the lamp. I felt like a movie ghost, clanking away. I'm planning to hide all the extra, but it's definitely going to be a little awkward pile of dark chain behind a side table. Yes, it is as difficult to attach the first chain link to the top of the light as the reviews say. I needed to use two different pairs of pliers at once and all my hand strength. I imagine this is to make shipping possible - I'm guessing that if it shipped connected, the glass shade might break. Even though I was warned, I found the process of actually attaching it to be ridiculously annoying. Also, unless you have special tools or some kind of expertise, you are going to damage that first link (and maybe other parts) and scrape off some of the finish so that the shiny silver shows through. I absolutely do not care and if I ever decide that I do, I can always paint over it, but it's worth mentioning. I also needed to pre-drill holes into the ceiling beam in order to screw in the screws for the hooks. The 1/8 in bit on a power drill worked well. I broke one of the hooks trying to screw it in, but that's probably my fault - I didn't make sure one of the holes was pre-drilled far enough, and I got a little aggressive with the pliers trying to force it. (Not recommended.) Between trying to screw in the hook and trying to open and close the first metal link to attach it to the lamp, I gave myself blisters on my hands today. I kept the lamp shade itself in the box for most of this process, and handled it very carefully otherwise, making sure not to hit it with the hefty chain. Thanks to this treatment, the shade survived to be put up unscathed. The whole thing looks really good above my dining table. Because I broke one of the hooks, I contacted the company about a replacement, and I don't consider this project finished yet. Regardless, I am extremely proud of myself for managing to get it set up at all. It took me several hours over the course of an afternoon, and lots of consultation with a tool-savvy neighbor. I am not a handy person, but I think that this is something that anyone can do with the right tools and the right expectations. Anyone who says that they did it in under an hour is either a much more competent person than I am, or a liar.

Sturdy, attractive, and serves the purpose.

The in-line switch could be further from the outlet. That’s my only complaint and it’s easily resolved by installing another one at the desired location. I would buy this item again.

Hard to open chain link

My only negative is it was hard for me to get chain link opened to attach to lamp. Had to purchase a S hook which worked great. Love the item.

Hard to assemble. Poor matching parts. Gorgeous if mounted correctly.

This is a stylish lamp. But it isn't easy to assemble. The instructions require you to separate the last link of the swag chain using pliers in order to mount the lamp. You need to separate a link in the chain to affix it to the top member. I think I'm mechanically proficient, but it took two pliers and significant amount of force to separate the link and affix it to the top member. Can't imagine someone with little skills or the right tools and force to assemble this lamp. The top member on my lamp wasn't threaded correctly. It didn't thread to the lamp niipple resulting in about an hour of disassembling the lamp in order to re-tap the thread. Even then, the threads on the lamp niipple were so course that it took cross-threading to mount the lamp. I'm sure this is beyond the scope of most buyers and would have resulted in a return. If you're using the plug and not hard mounting the lamp, it will take some time to remove the copper ground wire and requires some patience to move the conductor to the bottom of the chain. It certainly is a gorgeous lamp and once mounted, provides a stylish source of light to any room in your house. I'd recommend a soft white bulb and hanging the unit slightly below standing eye level. It's very bright with a 100 watt bulb but fills a corner with some much needed illumination.

Nice all around!

I moved into a place with fancy candelabras. I didn't want to spend that kind of money at the time to get another onelike them, but wanted something that would look nice with them for throughout the house. This is simple, but very nice. It doesn't diminish the candelabras at all. Lots of light for something simple.

Beautiful lamp

I needed a brighter light for my sunroof and I wanted it to be a swag lamp. This gave me the option to hardwire it or simply hang it from a hook. I hung it. The only thing I don't like is how close to the wallplug the switch is, so I put a smart bulb in it. It has a very long cord. It looks and feels very sturdy.

A good choice and product for us. Would buy it again if we needed one for another room.

Even though did not arrive when promised (the fault of the carrier not Amazon) we had it up 3 minutes and looks great! Yes the switch for the light is close to the floor but for our usage it is not applicable as we have a dedicated off/on wall switch. Very happy! Very happy with the lamp, exceeded our expectations but still not happy with the uncertainty caused but shipping promises as the shipping instructions changed at least 2 times and for us the carrier who delivered if we had to go get it due to not being home would have cost us over $50.00 in taxis fares to get it. Amazon needs to work on this s issue

Nice lamp

This was as expected: Good appearance, good quality, good value and easy installation. But the chain came out of its box and roamed around, scratching the glass in a two inch patch during shipping. Had to send it back. Ordered two, the other one was undamaged even though it's chain had come out of the box also. Found a lamp locally so didn't reorder. I recommend this but hope the box of chain is stabilized before shipping.

Simple but stylish

Nice looking lamp for my use. First one I ordered was defective, but amazon is amazing not deal with and returned with no issues and sent a replacement. The replacement is perfect with no problems at all.

Beautiful light with a little difficulty connecting chain

Overall very good product, looks wonderful in our house. Only issue was during install trying to connect the chain to the top of the light fixture. We ended up buying clips to connect the two together.
