It is easy to use and comes with a battery already and does not just studs but tracks wiring and metal too. Gotta get this

Works good and light

Follow the instruction carefully. Once you do, it finds Stud and Electric wire and Metal no problem. I stay in older house and do not know where wires are and this is awesome tool to work safely.

Worked fine for studs and metal pipe, but not great for electic cable

Like the headline says, this thing did fine with detecting studs through drywall and metal pipe inside walls. But with electrical cable I found it rather tricky to use due to being too sensitive. In my first tests, if it was anywhere near a live cable it would beep constantly, basically telling me that multi-square-foot sections of a wall were all one big live wire. The sensitivity of the scanner is determined by where it is in relation to an electric field when you first press the "Test" button, so with some experimenting I found that by deliberately pressing and holding that button with the scanner against the wall and closer to a live wire, I could reduce its sensitivity to a more reasonable level. So this might be reasonable for some users. It can easily give you a heads-up that there's a live cable somewhere inside a patch of wall, and then if you want to locate that cable more precisely you can try pressing and holding the Test button at different spots within that area to reduce the sensitivity. So not great, but usable.

Works well

When I first got this, I installed the included battery, read the manual, and started testing it. It immediately showed a "low battery" indicator and acted completely crazy. Sure enough, the supplied 9v battery was not up to snuff. Once I replaced it with a good battery, things were better. I tested it with wooden studs and it worked perfectly. I also tested with electric lines in the wall and it seemed to do a good job there as well. I didn't test with metal. The on-screen display looks good and makes it clear when you hit an edge of a stud. It also shows you the mode you are in and when the battery is low. Buttons work just find, simply to change modes and operate the detection. It glides along the wall smoothly on a pair of soft padded strips. Besides the bad battery, the other 2 nits to pick are that the units is very bulky (though light) and the LED is weak. It would be nice if it were smaller. Also, there's an LED light that casts onto the wall when you find what you're looking for, but I found it to be small and weak compared to my older stud finder. Overall, it goes the job done.
