Works fine - took a while to get to me

It took awhile for this piece to finally get to me. When it did, it worked fine. I was concerned because the right one I bought took 3 tries to get a working one.

Not for analog layouts, DCC only product but not labelled as such

Not sure if I am the last person on Earth to run my N scale layout with analog controls and locomotives, which require that turn-outs isolate the direction that is not selected so that sidings or loops, when not in direct connection to the main track, keep the locomotives stopped / without power. This turnout permanently powers both directions, with an option that is user-configurable to de-activate power the frog plate for DCC layouts. Great to have thought of not shorting the DCC rolling stock, but this item is useless in an analog layout with multiple trains alternating use of the main track from sidings or loops. The least Bachman could do is label the item correctly to warn buyers. Not impressed! Back to the soldering iron to try and repair a faulty analog turn-out instead, or find an old one on eBay.

This turnout arrived in its original Bachmann packaging and performs its function well in my N scale layout.

These are very expensive, I got them for my son and his layout but we wound up using Kato.

We got this to use for a turn out track ...

We got this to use for a turn out track to park a second train. We thought that when we flipped the switch back to main track that, that would kill the turn out track. But the train to the side track wants to start up. So we still have to take the engine off the track. So if flipping the switch does not kill the side turn-out then that is a mistake on our part and would give it a 5 star.

Poor design, but it can be made to work

Its part of the track which is a *toy* and *toys* are supposed to be assembled by a kid or a non-technical adult. This one was my 4th turnout after 3 previous failed to work. But Bachmann's support is unresponsive, and there's nothing electronically complex in model trains, and I am an electronic engineer. So I decided to reverse-engineer the circuit diagram, did some troubleshooting, and got it to work in less than 30 min. So now I can attest, if the turnout is not mechanically deficient, it can be fixed :) Anyone, who is desperate to make it work, send me a question and I will gladly help. However, my rating is still 3, because a venerable company like Bachmann, should not use cheap design which upsets children and parents.
