Nice little tent

This tent was exactly as described, and it even matched with the majority of the reviews I had read. One other reviewer said he had to immediately replace the hooks that fasten the tent to the poles, and we had exactly the same experience. The first time we put the tent together, one of those hooks broke. The other reviewer said he replaced them with the rings normally used as key rings. We did the same thing, and it worked like a charm. The tent is a little tricky to erect, so you'll definitely need to read the directions if you've never used this type of tent before. Our only area of difficulty was the tie-out at the back of the tent that keeps the rear arched pole upright. If the tie-out is extended to far out behind the tent, the rain fly will not fit over the tent as it should and would probably tear. That tie-out must be kept close to the tent and adjusted to the proper tension. My 12 year old son used this tent for his very first Boy Scout camp-out a few weeks ago, and was happy with it except that he had condensation issues during the night. We think if he had left the rain fly open just a few inches, there would have been no problem. He set the tent up at least three times here at home with me and his dad before his trip. If we had not done that, I think he would have been completely lost when it was time to set it up. My only real concern is that the bottom is made of the same fabric as the rest of the tent. To help protect it, I created a footprint from a tarp, and actually duct taped the rolled edges in place so it would be more sturdy. We still don't know how well it will hold up in the rain. The rain fly does go all the way to the ground if the tent is erected properly. I sprayed with waterproofing and sealed all the seams on both the tent and the rain fly. One thing I would like to mention is that the rain fly is a reflective silver on one side and blue on the other. It is actually the silver side that faces outward when the tent is erected - not the blue side as shown in the pictures. I believe the description says this is a two man tent, but it would be a very tight fit. I probably would have given this tent a 5 star rating had the clips not broken during the initial set up.

I purchased the Texsport Saguaro Bivy Shelter Tent for a backpacking trip I'm planning. I wanted something small, light and not uber-expensive and this tent fit the bill. I recently came across a great deal on a used Eureka! Solitaire, so I decided to see if I could live with this tent or spend my hard earned Christmas gift card on the Solitaire. Cons: The workmanship of the Made in China tent is not the greatest. Some of the stitching at the zippers was sloppy and the material wasn't cut straight. I had read other reviews warning that the speed clips for the rear arch pole broke easily. I found this to be true as I broke one of the clips while trying to be as careful as I could be. Obviously not careful enough. I've also read you can use 1-inch key rings in place of the clips, which is what I will do. I also figured out that in a pinch you can run the pole through the tabs that hold the speed clips. But if you do this you should insert the ends of the pole into the outside grommets or risk snapping the pole trying to get them into the inside grommets. Not sure why they didn't make a sleeve for the rear arch pole like they have for the front arch pole. The mesh window on top of the tent is kind of droopy. I could see someone getting annoyed by this. Pros: With the exception of the fragile speed clips, the tent was easy to assemble. It's warm. I put it up on a cool, breezy day and once I climbed inside the tent combined with the rainfly did a good job blocking the wind. I left the tent up overnight and it rained. The tent stayed dry inside. It's roomy. It will definitely have more than enough space for me. It's sold as a two-person tent and I can see two people and their gear fitting in there, but they'd have to REALLY like each other. Final verdict: It's not the greatest tent in the world, but it'll do.

Great tent for the price!

I wanted a tent to do some weekend camping/backpacking. I'm on a fairly tight budget so i needed something fairly cheap. It is intimidating looking at 3-400$ tents just for a person or two. I thought iw old never be able to afford a tent! So searching amazon i came across this beauty. It seemed to be just the right size and a great price compared to others. When I received the tent i immediately set it up in my living room. It is a little different to set up then other tents i have used in the past. It is fairly simple though. But I would suggest a few practice runs before using it if you are not familiar with the design. The tent is made of nice material and all the measurements and seams are spot on, well put together. The poles are a little cheap but i have had no problems with them. The tent is very light and pack able. Without the fly it is nice and airy, pretty much a screen room, which is great if you do not need privacy. The fly is wonderful. It provides good coverage and fits nice and tight. It is made of a grayish metallic colored material that deflects the sun very well. I found it kept the tent cooler with the fly on. As far as room the tent is modest. I believe you could sleep two people quite comfortably if desired. I spent two night in it with my black lab and we had plenty of room. They were dry nights and i had zero condensation with me and my dog with the fly attached on a nice summer weekend. I was amazed at this since i have never slept in a tent and had no condensation! I did bring a mini fan that I bought on amazon and ran it both nights, that may have helped too. Only problem i see at all if the floor is thin but i think a nice ground cover will take care of that (tyvek works great, at any hardware store, light and breathable). I think I will be able to procure one for under 20$ so all in all a great buy but i did bring it to 4 stars on that factor only. I will update again after next trip, hope you enjoy.
