Not Your Average Joe

I'm going to be honest: I'm normally nonplussed by cleaners that proclaim to be eco-friendly. I want to like them. I love the concept, but when it comes down to it, they usually don't work as well as the more conventional cleaners. I had the chance to try this, however, so figured I'd be open minded and give it a shot. It's a pretty standard idea. You get a sprayer, empty bottle, measuring cup with spout, and the product in a larger bottle. I thought the larger bottle was a bit small, until I read the mixing instructions. You only need 3 oz for regular, daily use, and 4 oz for heavier jobs. Given that, this bottle will last a long while. That's a plus. Now on to the testing phase. I live in Louisiana, and once the temps hit about 50 outside, it's proper gumbo weather. Granted, we eat gumbo all year, but this is when it's the best. My husband decided to make a double batch this past weekend. Now under the best of circumstances, when he cooks anything, my kitchen looks like a culinary bomb went off in it (and not the flavor bomb variety). This time? It was unprecedented. We're talking the browning and draining of over 10 pounds of assorted sausage products, 13 pounds of chicken thighs, and the trinity (veg mixture). Then there's the hours of stirring and simmering, then the dishing out and portioning with all the dripping. It was awful. It was a nightmare. This would be the ultimate test of any cleaner. This stuff worked pretty darn good. I definitely got the counters clean without having to scrub like crazy. I sprayed it and let it sit a moment, and voila: clean. My stove top was a bit more challenging, but the amount of spilled and burnt food and grease was pretty staggering. I'm not going to say this got every bit easy as pie, but it cleaned at least as well as something like 409. In short, this stuff really does work at least as well as conventional cleaners. I'm pretty surprised and happy about that, and I did give it a pretty formidable challenge. It also has a pleasing citrus-based scent. If you are someone who wants to avoid harsher cleaners, this is a very viable option.

A Great All-Purpose Concentrated Liquid Cleaner That is Safer Than Most Cleaning Products. Enjoy!

Almost a decade ago I owned a commercial cleaning service and specialized in cleaning commercial buildings, carpets and floors with a safe concentrated orange citrus and hydrogen peroxide liquid of varying strengths. When I saw this “CleanJoe” fresh Citrus all-purpose multi-surface concentrated cleaner, I was hoping it the H2O2 green cleaner that I used with great success years ago. Unfortunately, it is not. . First of all, most good cleaning products are not green. The label on this product clearly warns the consumer that this product may be harmful if ingested and asks consumers to protect the skin, eyes and mucous membranes when using this product. That said, this is a pretty good all-purpose cleaner. A measuring cup and spray bottle are included with this 32-ounce bottle of concentrated cleaner. The directions say to measure 2-ounces and fill the rest of the spray bottle with water only. It says to add an additional ounce for heavy-duty jobs. The label says that this product cleans wood, glass, concrete, stainless steel and more. I used the 2-ounce strength and used it to clean stains on my concrete patio, my stainless steel kitchen sink, my front, and back door glass windows, my glass patio table, my wood garden table, the mirrors and sink in my bathroom and an old tarnished chrome hammered bathroom trash can. It did a great job cleaning everything with no streaks. It did not get up all the stains on my patio; however, neither did the full-strength professional concrete cleaner that I used in that area last summer. It did lighten the stains quite a bit though. Perhaps a stronger solution will help remove the Tung Oil stains that I made when I spilled some on the concrete patio and my garden table when staining an outside cabinet and raised flower bed for the backyard. While the “CleanJoe” cleaning solution cleaned all the dirt off the painted garden table without removing the paint, there are still lighter, but stain remnants on that blue table and the paint is also lighter in those spots. Overall, this product worked as great as could be expected. It is not as safe as the old cleaning product I used when operating my commercial clean business; however, neither are most other good cleaning products. I would recommend this cleaning product to family, friends, and others who are willing and able to follow the safety instructions. Enjoy!

Finding the Compromise Between Powerful and Green

There are several GOOD "green" cleaning solutions on the market. However, finding the GREAT solution has been a challenge. We have a Sun Joe power washer, so we came into this very familiar with the brand. We love what it does for us and figured that the company may be onto something with their more green friendly cleaner. When you see something that says "multi-surface" it's easy to assume that it means it can be used just about everywhere. But of course you'll want to be careful in reading the instructions. In addition it is important that we don't equate "green" with "safe" as this is a strong combination of chemicals that can still be harmful if touched, consumed, etc. That said, I did not try to taste this cleaner - so I can't tell you if it was safe or if it tasted well. Now to the cleaning. I put this as in between good and great. I think it's a little closer to good though. It reminds me (going back again) of the power washer fluid we use. It nearly gets everything off of the patio, but misses just enough to make me want for more. This is exactly the case with this solution. It does a great job on everyday tasks, but if there is something deeply embedded into tile or whatever material we're cleaning, it can be tough. The cost is up there a bit, so you need to be careful when using to make sure you're diluting it properly. Yes, I tried using it without diluting it just to see how powerful it was. It works GREAT but by the time I clean the kitchen it would have cost me $100 in concentrate. :) If you're on the fence, go ahead and try it. I think this is promising and look forward to continuing to find the great - but in the meantime I am content with the almost great that comes from Sun Joe's offering.
