It's cool, but not as cool as expected
Bought this on a deal before Christmas for my 9 yr old son. He loves Stem type projects/electronics and owns a couple of Snap Circuit sets. The instructions tell you exactly how to set it up, and within minutes he was enjoying driving it around the kitchen and living room. That being said, it does leave something to be desired. It says there are 23 Stem projects, which is true, but only a few have to do with the Rover itself, and the rest are just generic projects that are mostly covered in other Snap Circuit sets. The whole thing pretty basic and also moves very slow. Maybe the add-on set would make it cooler, but for the price I would expect it to have more. My son still likes it a lot, but I was hoping for more (we could have bought any random remote control car and he would have been at least equally happy).

Outstanding Product and Customer Service.
Our six year old son has been bugging us for a while to get him a remote controlled vehicle. Having previously bought the Snap Circuit Jr. set and been thrilled with it, my wife and I decided to purchase this as his gift for Christmas. My thought was "if you want a remote controlled vehicle, you're going to build it yourself, kiddo." His aunt purchased the UC-90 upgrade kit as her Christmas gift for him, so it worked out great as far as money spent, as the Deluxe Rover close to $100. The kit is amazing. You have to read the inserts in the project manual for information regarding wiring as some of the wires are about a 1/2" too short it seems. Now, after a week of terrorizing the dog with this thing (the son, not me), the unit quit working. Batteries were good, so that left one of the over 100 parts to troubleshoot. The project manual gives you specific projects to build as a diagnostic tool to track down a faulty part. This is an important and well-thought out component of the instructions. I did the tests, and found out the Deluxe Receiver was not longer working. So, I called the company, and talked to an actual person for a brief second and was then transferred to the voice mail of Parts Department where I had to leave a message with my name, address, and the part I needed. So I left the message, thinking "eh, I'll have to explain that I tracked everything down, that my kid didn't wire it wrong, etc.". Nope. I got a call a couple days later saying that the part was on its way. A week and two days after I called, I had the part, and we're back to terrorizing the dog and learning about resistors and capacitors. The rover itself is actually pretty cool. Doesn't drive too fast. A bit loud. Easy to drive. In my opinion, a nice balance of science project and recreational vehicle. Can't say enough about my positive experience with this product and the company. Well done!

Gave to my grandson for his 7th birthday - he loves all the snap circuit kits we've bought him. Together we shared quality time completing the first project and driving the rover throughout his house. Highly recommend!!!

Very cool!
We saw it at the library and bought one immediately. Very easy to put together and my 5yo son loves it. It has a light and a sound. You need to put a battery in the remote and batteries on the bottom of the rover.

Very limited compared to the other kits
Bowen liked the Snapcircuits Arcade kit so much that there are days when he wakes up at 6:00am and asks to do projects. So when the Snapcircuits Rover went on sale during Black Friday my wife and I picked it up. The concept is fairly similar: you get a breadboard that's mounted onto a chassis. The chassis contains the batteries, wheels, motors, but none of the electronics that you then wire together to put together a remote control vehicle. The remote is a simple flimsy remote that's fixed function, by contrast. The problem with the rover, however, is that it's of very limited variation. The wireless module and the control modules are two very big blocks that are connected by a bunch of resistors. In fact, as long as you want to receive signals from the controller and move the rover, you don't have any choice but to wire up these two big blocks a certain way. The problem then is that you don't have much space left on the breadboard for much else. Thus, the kit comes with 3 rover variations, and all the other projects basically treats the rover as a fixed unit supplying the power. Worse, the manual states that your other Snapcircuit kits (save a few exceptions) cannot be used on this circuit board because the voltage and power draws are different. If I were the designer of the system, I would have fused the wireless and control modules together into one block, eliminating the need to take up so much space on the board. Furthermore, I'd also include a voltage stepper so that the rover would be compatible with other Snapcircuit kits. As it is, the Rover sounds great, but is so limited that Bowen basically never played with it again after one night. I returned the toy to Amazon and he didn't even notice! Not recommended.

Amazing Toy and amazing customer service from Snap Circuit!!
We purchased this toy from Amazon for my son during Christmas. A few days after Christmas, we noticed the shaft that holds one of the wheels in place was broken. I contacted the company, Snap Circuit, to get a replacement part. A few days later, I received an e-mail from the company stating that they would send a replacement. When the package arrived, I was AMAZED!!! For starters they sent the part free of charge (we all know that's rare with most company's), and lastly, they didn't just send the broken part, they sent the whole bottom of the Rover!! They went above and beyond to prove they stand behind their product. My son was so excited. It's his favorite Christmas gift and he loves that he can build his own remote control rover. :) If you have a child who loves to learn how things work, you will love this product and the company that makes it :) My son loves how he can put it together and build the Rover with lights, and a horn, and many other features. We have the Rover and two different snap circuit jr sets and we love them!!!!!!!!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND any thing from Snap Circuit!!

Combining electronics with a build-able toy - great idea!
This is a great project, to get the children engaged and driven to want to learn about electronics, or how to build them. Their main objective is to build the remote control circuits (snap on) to activate the remote control car. Interestingly - there was intense excitement in building the circuits to get the car to run. Then after that, I found that my younger son lost interest. There was not the burning desire to rewire, or build another. To that end, As an adult, part of that excitement is building it with them, and setting the next interesting project in motion - follow the light, or drive to the dark - circuits (if possible). Very cool learning toy. As a gift, this got their excitement levels hitting the roof. Great investment in your children!

It is overpriced, and I think the smaller snap circuit kits are actually better then this one.

Absolutely brilliant product!
If you have a curious child that is able to follow instruction like in Lego then this is great to help kids learn about circuitry, physics and electronics. My child turned 6 recently and made two of the projects with relative ease. Requires supervision which is easy to give because it is fun for adults too!
