Learned about this product in a meeting at work. Was looking for something to use at home when I make huge pots of spaghetti sauce and other things to cool down before I put in the fridge and then store in the freezer. I was using ice packs. So wrong. I use it in addition to putting the pot in a water and ice bath. Sometimes it pays to go to work meetings (which this was mandatory for the food industry even though it didn't apply to my job). I learned how to cool hot items down without them destroying and spoiling things in my fridge and not make people sick from bacteria build up. If you are a home cook and make huge pots of soup, sauce, chili or whatever buy this product to help cool it down before you put it in fridge or freezer. Make sure you follow instructions. Another way to cool down fast is to put the food item in smaller containers that you are using to put in freezer or the fridge if you don't have this product or use an ice bath. Very happy with it and purchased another one for backup and on days when I am ambitious and make more than one pot.

Contains BPA, NOT food grade
I can't believe the food industry uses these routinely! I would not consider this "food grade" equipment. The attached tag flat out says it contains BPA. I'm not going to immerse this in hot chili or gravy and then feed it to my kids. I ended up purchasing $2 BPA-free plastic water bottles from Walmart, filling them with water and freezing.

I'm really happy I finally bought one
I love it. I'm glad I finally bought one. It seems a bit pricey for just a bit of plastic, but it's the type of foodservice plastic that makes it what it is. It won't melt or give off chemicals or odors into your food. This tool will most definitely get your food quickly into the safe side of the temperature danger zone. 39 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. HACCP is nothing to take lightly. The pictures I've added include an 8-quart stockpot so you can see the ice wand's actual size.

Extremely useful and durable
I bought two of these over a year ago and they have seen frequent use in that time. I regularly make large batches of soup to portion out and freeze for meals. These coolers have drastically cut down on the amount of time it takes to cool the soup. It gives me piece of mind knowing my food is cooled properly for safety reasons. They have been very durable so far.

A must for smart cooks
I don't know how anyone could live without this simple device. I use it to cool shrimp and crab after boiling so that I can cool them enough to stop the cooking and steep them in the seasoning. I also cool soups, chile and stews in order to reduce their temperature before I put them in the refrigerator; so that I don't raise the temperature in the refrigerator and cause a lot of the contents to reach the temperature "danger point" and start to grow bacteria. I keep mine in the door of my freezer and have it ready whenever I need it. You/I can't afford to be without it.......
