Great flavor & Programmable

Overall: This coffee maker makes really good tasting coffee & is programmable so you can have coffee ready and waiting for whatever time you want. Depending on your expertise with coffee and coffee makers, my review may either be relatable or totally off what your expectations are. In terms of overall quality; if we say a professional, copper tubing, 'steam-punk' looking contraption that costs $5k is a 10 on a scale of 1-10, and a standard boring coffee maker is a 1, I'd say this is a 3 or 4. Looks: It's mostly plastic, but was aesthetically designed well with a sleek techy look and nice lighting, and a touch screen. It does look cool for the price point. I just wanted an auto-programmable pour-over system and it works great for that and makes really good coffee. The good: -the flavor is great -programmability to automatically make coffee -options to drill down into specifics like a weight scale w/ability to measure the right amount of grounds vs H2O to add -Bloom and strength settings if you're into that level of detail - the lights are pretty cool when it is brewing coffee. Nothing annoying, just nice subtle internal lights that make an otherwise plasticky (is that a word?) device look more "sleek" Bad: -Touch screen is a little user-unfriendly, kinda glitchy, but works once you figure out the process. -coffee seems to splatter fine-droplets around the machine as coffee is being made. prepare to wipe up each time a pot is brewed -hot water flowing through plastic pieces; not sure about the BPA issues if you're worried about that - the carafe's glass is definitely on the "thin" side. I guarantee its just a matter of months before I accidentally hit it on my sink and break it while cleaning it. -There's a 2 piece filter holder design/insert that needs better engineering; it feels like it doesnt properly fit together. I dont use or need all of the functions, but nice to know they're there. It makes good coffee.

Slight Learning Curve, Beutiful, Slightly Buggy

We are serious about coffee, and I recently learned to love pour overs. My husband must have a coffee pot, so I found this one. I was weary of a Hamilton Beach, which usually has cheap mechanisms and parts. But, I tried this one and we love it so far. It took a second to figure out the process, when simply saying press Select for options, and hold Select or just wait to choose would have simplified learning. It is difficult to determine when you should add grounds. The menu advances too quickly and the scale sits at zero for a while after you spoon the grounds. The marketing is deceptive, as it only included a pack of 4 Melitta paper filters. We chose a permanent gold filter, Apache Living Pour Over, with grounds in between medium and course. Our coffee is smooth. We just had to clean the filter thoroughly, as the first pot did almost overflow in the filter. So far, we love this pot.

Beautiful BUT delicate

On the first try even after reading all the safety and handling instructions and being super careful with it, my carafe cracked and I have a warranty but they are asking for my serial number and I cant find it. Sigh.

Makes a great cup of coffee

I purchased this in an effort to reduce my waste output from my Keurig. I will say that it is a very striking design and looks very clean on the countertop. Also, I have noticed that the coffee has a smoother taste to it, much less acidic taste than from a traditional coffee pot. It is very user very friendly, even tells you how much coffee grounds to use and counts down the weight as you add them. Having said that, the price, in my opinion is high for it. I had found a discount code and used it for my purchase. Overall, I am happy with this coffee maker but would not purchase again at this price which is why I took away one star.

Not really a "Craft" Brewer

I did quite a bit of research as I was searching for a new coffee maker after being underwhelmed with a Moccamaster a few years ago. I was looking for a drip machine which would allow me to stop doing pour overs on my Chemex every day but still allowed for customization, bloom cycle, etc. The Hamilton Beach and Breville models I found on Amazon both suggested they offered this level of brew customization. I went with the HB model and while it's a fine coffee brewer, I wouldn't describe it as customizable. A detailed breakdown below: 1. Precise Water to Coffee Ratio. The machine says it will tell you how much water to add based on the integrated scale which weights your grinds (pretty cool idea). However, when setting the brew cycle you need to first select how many cups you want to brew and regardless of how much coffee you use it always suggests the amount of water based on your original input. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'd much prefer it weigh the ground coffee first and then tell me how much water I need to add based on actual weight and the golden ratio. Instead, I'm still using an independent scale to measure water and coffee and I'm not sure what the integrated scale should actually be used for. 2. Temperature. Having control over the temperature is another feature touted by this machine. However, you only have two options Hot and Very Hot. There are no additional options. I was hoping for a temperature setting where I could input an exact temperature based on the type of coffee I was brewing. 3. No profiles. it would be nice to be able to create a pre-set profile based on taste preference for coffee type A, B, C, etc. I don't think the description suggests this is possible but it would be a nice, easy feature. Instead every day one has to run through the somewhat slow brew menu (there is no ENTER button requiring you wait the 3-5 seconds per menu for it to acknowledge you are done inputting information) daily. Overall, this isn't a terribly expensive coffee maker compared to Breville or others but it does not deliver the brewing control suggested in the description that someone who wants more fine-grain oversight of their coffee would find compelling.

fancy product to brew my coffee

I really like it, looks so fancy on my kitchen counter. I do pour over coffee most of the time and sometimes use auto brewing when I don't have time. It can be programmed and ready for morning coffee. really enjoy 2 ways of making my coffee.

Makes coffee way better than my old, drip coffee maker

At first, I was skeptical about the difference on automatic pour over coffee maker, can make it the taste of my coffee, but after brewing just one pot, I was sold. The coffee comes out hotter, and with much more flavor than my old, automatic, drip coffee maker. This machine can take your basic grocery store grinds and make a wonderful cup of coffee. The control panel is a little finicky, but once you get used to it, you’ll love this coffee maker.

Incredibly easy to use. Brews fast. Brews hot. Coffee is full of flavour. The design is very cool. It is a show piece at my home coffee bar.
