Well-behaved simmerer with All-Clad quality -- not much bad to say!
I don't want to suggest that this is the "best" stockpot or even imply it's better than some less expensive offerings. In fact, I'm quite positive with a little time spent web sleuthing, I could be just as pleased spending just a quarter of the money. BUT... I must say that All-Clad is the first name I checked out. Since 1997, my wife and I have been cooking on All-Clad stainless steel line (which refers to the finish -- it features All-Clad's signature aluminum core construction), and all of that gear is holding up remarkably well, with daily use and regular scourings. This pot is no different, with the same aluminum core, low-polish stainless exterior (not exactly mirror bright, thank goodness), and easy-to-clean interior that handles Brillo pads and Barkeepers Helper without complaint. The sign of any good stockpot -- this one included -- is a good amount of base material to facilitate even heat spread. The cheap pots with thin bases that develop hot spots not only require constant stirring and undue patience, they're a pain to clean all the burnt-on muck off the bottom. This one features an extremely thick steel-aluminum sandwich base plate, that heats up quickly and simmers really well, without a bunch of micro-adjustments to the flame. The other sign of a good stockpot is a tall, narrow profile -- to control the rate of boil-off and ensure all of the ingredients are absorbing the natural flavors rising from the bottom. There's a trade-off with this pot: if you're dealing with smaller quantities, this pot is too wide and, in fact, annoyingly tall. For those instances, a narrower pot is in order. For larger quantities, pickings are slim, but this fits the bill. The pot measures about 12 inches across, and is a bit more than 10 inches tall. It easily handles whole chicken and turkey carcasses. There's no flex to the sides -- which are "normal" thickness, i.e. quite a bit thinner that the fat base -- so even when I'm lifting the full, heavy pot off the cook top, the riveted handles always feel sturdy, and I don't expect any failures *ever* just like with our long-serving braiser and soup pot. My biggest criticism of this type of handle is cleaning the discoloration that eventually develops around the rivets -- but that's just a petty grievance. For a reason I'm not aware of, this 16 quart pot is a rare beast, with no presence on All-Clad's website, nor many of the other All-Clad retailers. While the price tag on this pot is "reasonable" in the All-Clad price scheme (and there are certainly more expensive stockpots out there), I again want remind you that, before clicking "Buy Now," there are more competitively priced stockpots to choose from that are almost certainly of equal quality.

Excellent stock pot
I purchased this stock pot as a gift for my mother, who wanted a large, very heavy stock pot but didn't want to spend several hundred dollars. For the price, this is an excellent, heavy, stock pot. I own a 6 quart All-Clad stainless stock pot as well and have been very pleased with it. I will admit that the description is somewhat misleading -- according to the All-Clad representative I emailed and to my observations of the pot, it is not "clad" all the way up the side but has the aluminum core only on the bottom (the same goes for the 20 and 24 quart versions). This is not part of the durable, timeless All-Clad stainless line; this doesn't discount it as a quality product, though. While this does have a "lip" where the clad bottom meets the stainless sides, it is on the outside of the pot, not the inside, so there is no danger of food getting caught or burning, as another reviewer warned. The inside is smooth from the bottom up. Is this the exact same quality as the All-Clad stainless line? No, but at about 1/3 the price of the stainless 12 quart stock pot, it is a great alternative and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. It is an *extremely* heavy stock pot, far superior to other stock pots in this price range.

Really nice pan
The pan is big enough to use for canning and is a great stock pot. It’s only hard to clean because of its size which is no fault of the pan. I love all my All Clad pans. Even heat and last a lifetime.

worth every penny!
I love this pot. It is big, it is sturdy, it lives up to all the good things I had heard about it. When I was looking for a stock pot, I asked my brother for advice because he is a professional chef. This is the pot he recommended. It cost twice as much as I had originally budgeted, but I am glad that I spent the money because I will never have to replace it. The bottom is thick and even, it cooks beautifully. The first thing I cooked was a big batch of applesauce. Since then I have been making soups and stews. The pot is big enough that I don't have anything splashing out or boiling over. There is a lot of room to add ingredients and stir. I was amazed at how well it holds the heat after I turn off the burner, so I can actually save energy by turning off the burner before the food is done. I keep an eye on things to make sure the food stays at safe temperatures, I don't just turn it off and leave it all day (for those of you who are worried about food safety, as am I!).

Good Quality Stock Pot
I did quite a bit of research before buying this pot. It was a toss-up between this one and and a Farberware one, but I liked the security of riveted handles vs. welded ones for a pot this size. No, it's not a "true" All Clad, but full tri-ply construction would be a waste of money for a pot this size. The disc bottom on a pot this size is more than sufficient. Yes, it's made in China, but most SS cookware is these days. I use this pot primarily for canning tomatoes. My old thin SS pot always burned the tomatoes on the bottom, resulting in black flakes in the tomatoes, and was a pain to clean. What a difference with this pot. No burning or scorching. Chili turned out equally well. If you can get past the "it's not a 'real' All Clad" snobbery, this is a great pot. 9/2/15 - ETA: I've had this pot for five years now, and it still looks and performs like new. While I don't have use for a pot this size very often, when I do it performs admirably. Having said that, when I purchased this pot in 2009 it was a bit over $100. I note now that is just shy of $200. If it'd been that price in 2009 I would definitely have passed it by. If I were buying this today, I would probably opt for thisTramontina Stock Pot instead. It's less than half the price, and Tramontina cookware has an excellent reputation.

CHINESE Made at USA Pricing
The title says it all. This is not the USA item that has been applauded for eons as one of the best cookwares available. This one is made in China but still packs a hefty price tag. This has the encapsulated base versus the all clad models which are all one piece. I guess All clad is making an effort to lower prices but this is still pricey. You would figure that if they sunk down to making it in China the prices would drop but it didn't . Not sure if these were always from China but the box indicates Designed in USA and made in China. From a quick overview the handles seem well made but since this is a two piece base I feel it is a compromise

Spent an hour cleaning it out of the box - extremely annoyed and disappointed
I spent a lot of money on this pot because I wanted a high-quality, long lasting large stock pot. Structurally, this pot seems okay but it arrived with black machine oil and dirt on all the machined surfaces: e.g.; upper and lower surfaces of the lid edge, inside and outside surfaces of the lip of the pot, and the corner between the bottom and side of the pot. It was extremely difficult and time-consuming to remove, and after using hot soapy water and a dish cloth for 50 minutes, still more came off with paper towels and 99% rubbing alcohol. I contacted All-Clad and they wrote back to say that I should take it up with Amazon! As though some stooge at Amazon had taken the time to apply the dirt and machine oil to the product before it was sold. It was definitely the result of a shoddy manufacturing process in China, where this was made. I paid a lot of money for this and I expected a pot that was clean when new. Apparently All-Clad doesn't agree because they took ZERO responsibility for a manufacturing defect. The last time I buy an All-Clad product.
