Wire break located
This product worked exactly as advertised. I have almost 3 acres inside the wire on my invisible fence. The company that installed it went along my property line of the front and both sides until they came to the woods in back. They buried the wire about 2 inches deep, about 3 or 4 feet inside of the tree-lines on all four sides and had to weave in and out to avoid tree roots, and placed the flags in a straight line giving the impression that the wire ran in an approximate straight line. That fact has caused me to accidentally break the wire a couple of times, but since I was doing tractor work I knew about where the line had broken and I quickly located and spliced the break. This time however, I was stumped. The transmitter started beeping continuously, seemingly out of the blue. My son and I walked the entire fence-line and couldn't find disturbed dirt anywhere. I looked on Amazon and found this PetSafe Wire Break locator and bought it. I've had it a few weeks now and my dogs have been staying inside the wire anyway because they've been well trained over the past year and a half since I had the invisible fence installed. Today, though, one of them realized it wasn't working so she went to steal empty beer bottles from my neighbor's yard and I caught her. Time to fix the fence. Putting everything together and getting it working was a piece of cake, just like the easy to read and understand instructions said. I tested it on the ground wires and had a red one and a green one along with the corresponding tones. Great! The first thing I found that was odd was that as I walked the path to where the wires separate and go in opposite directions, I immediately lost the red light and tone. The green stayed on with it's tone, and I walked all the way around the yard before losing the tone about 9/10ths of the way - seemingly due to signal loss. The tone started getting fainter and the green light quit coming on then the toned got even fainter until it disappeared completely. I went back to the garage and dug up the wire just as it exits the garage wall and found that someone had put all the wires in to a single wire nut. Apparently my wife had noticed that the wires were exposed a couple of months ago, and decided to repair them. She wasn't aware that they should be separated so she twisted all 6 wires into a single wire nut. I was baffled at first, but then I remembered that my wife is a woman, and then it all made sense. She was making a point that she could fix it just as well without any help from me, but then she forgot to brag about it, so I never knew what she'd done. Anyway, I'm thinking that was causing the fence to fail and beep continuously. I separated the wires and spliced them correctly and ran the fence wires again. But when I hooked up the invisible fence transmitter and plugged it in, it started beeping continuously again letting me know that there was still a break in the fence. This time I traced the red light and tone about 60 feet from where the wires separated and went in opposite directions when I came to a new Arborvitae tree my wife and kids planted last weekend. That's right, the wire went straight through the center of the root ball, or would have if it weren't cut in two. I spliced it there and that fixed the fence. Yea, PetSafe Wire Break Locator! Getting back to that green light and tone that quit working about 9/10ths of the way around the yard, I'm thinking this was signal loss due to the length and wire size. I can't be sure, but I noticed about 100 feet before that happened that I was having trouble getting a good fix on the wire, and thought it might be the batteries in the locator. I replaced them with new batteries but that didn't change anything - the locator was still seeming to have trouble getting a signal off the wire. I'm about convinced now that it was signal loss - funny thing is that it stopped registering a signal on the wire about 10 feet from where I eventually found the broken wire.

Works perfectly and saves a ton vs paying a tech
Super easy instructions and use… works perfectly and is very simple to find where to dig up the break.

Only detects Full breaks.
I bought this thinking it would find the breaks. After going around my acre 4 times finding nothing I called Petsafe. I told them we did the loop test which indicted a break but the double red light would go on, then off. They said it sounds like a partial break which this device won't detect. After digging where our gardeners cut and fixed the line sure enough, that was it. So this device is useless unless there is a full break. Also, after using it for the first time the head came off and we had to super glue it.

Buy it when you buy the fence
It works exactly as it should. No, it won’t feel easy because you’re likely already annoyed that your fence is broken, but the kit works. You’re going to want this on hand when the fence is compromised the day before you leave for vacation, because, let’s be honest, you know things like this only happen at the worst possible times.

My hopes for the tool were met. My expectations were exceeded.
We have an invisible fence brand dog fence surrounding about 1.25 acres of a 2 acre property. The wire depth is quite shallow and we've managed to cut it numerous times. In the past I've spent hours of frustration and dug more trenches than I care to admit finding and fixing breaks. On those rare occasions I couldn't find / fix the break, a single service call from invisible fence costs more than this product. This time I managed to cut the wire while aerating the yard. I had a rough idea of the likely area of the cut, but it was still a pretty big area. Using my prior methods I shuddered to think how long and how much digging it would take to find and fix. After doing a little research, I ordered this product. I was hopeful but also a little skeptical given quality commercial wire locators cost much, much more. I'm a "tool guy" and a fairly competent DIY handyman, but none of those skills were needed to read the directions and set up the break finder. Transfer the wires from your fence to the test unit transmitter, connect two ground wires and run them to in ground stakes (provided in the kit), plug it in and you're 99% done. For the last 1% install two AAA batteries (not included) into the receiver (which just so happens to look like the offspring of a golf club and a metal detector). Turn receiver on and commence break finding. Despite having an approximate idea of where the break was, I wanted to run the tool through its paces and really see how it worked. I started at the invisible fence transmitter location and began to walk the fence line using the tool the way the directions described. In less than a minute I had the hang of it and followed the receiver signal along the wire until the break. The tone and lights changed on the receiver exactly as the directions said they would. I spent a couple more minutes walking back and forth over the break area to really hone in. After digging a small hole I found I was within a foot of the break, which happened to be around 125 yards away from the transmitter. 5 minutes later I had it fixed and the hole refilled. That's an exponential improvement over my prior "dig and pray" methodology. Summary: I followed the directions. The tool did exactly what the directions said it would. I found and fixed a break with a high degree of precision over 100 yards away from the starting point. My hopes for the tool were met. My expectations were exceeded. I have confidence it will perform just as well the next time there's a break. And I guarantee there will be a next time.

Worked like a charm!
In that past, it's been a nightmare when the line goes down and we had even gotten to the point where we stopped burying it because it was too hard to find the break. We moved this year and our builder buried the line for us. It was about 10 acres they we enclosed. The line went down last week and we spent almost a week trying to figure out where it was broken. Out of desperation I got online and I ordered this. My husband was able to find the break within 10 minutes! He said it's very convenient, intuitive, and works exactly as described. I would definitely recommend this if you have a dog wire. It will save you a lot of time.

75% of the time, works everytime!
I ordered this product as my in-ground fence has developed a frustrating series of line breaks. I tried the AM radio method of locating the breaks on my 5 acres, but it wasn't working for me, so 150$ later here we go. It's relatively simple to set up and use. Honestly, I wonder why it's not included with the original kit, as I'm pretty sure every owner of this system is going to experience hidden line breaks over the years. After following some ghost transmissions for awhile, I did eventually locate my break, so kudos to the system for working mostly as advertised. The detector stick (my kids call it the minesweeper) did stop working briefly for no apparent reason but then started working again a few minutes later. 3 stars, mostly due to price and it should really be a part of the original in-ground fence kit, not a pricey addition for something that will definitely happen.

Awesome unit
We install remote mowers and through the winter the mice had eaten a customers ground wire. We hooked this unit up and with very small learning curve we found the breaks in the ground wire. Awesome little unit.

Worked once
We purchased this because every spring we have at least one breaking around dog fence line. It worked fine last year, this year and it won’t work at all. In theory this is the second time I’ve tried to use it and now it doesn’t work.

Worked ok at first, but then quit.
It was quite accurate to trace the wire with, but it did not lead me to the break. I had to call in a professional. I do have a larger property with a long fencing wire. After a short time of usage the ground wire connector on the unit came loose, apparently from poor manufacturer quality, which did not help.

So worth the money
If you have breaks in the wire this will find them. We ran our wire around a fence. Not underground. Who does that. Found the break in hours. We had looked for days
