Well made and a lovely color
I am delighted with my purchase. It is difficult to find orange serving pieces and this particular one can go from the oven to the table. I have not used it as yet, but it appears to be very well made and is ample in size. I would definitely recommend this product.

Fun over Function... Great for Serving, Not for Cooking
I know that Rachel Ray is pretty popular, and I was genuinely looking forward to checking this product out. As a constant baker and the owner of a popular food/recipe blog, I figured this would have a nice little space in my kitchen. Now, having used it about a dozen times, I'm still on-the-fence of how I feel about it. Yes, it looks great. It's distinctive, the color looks great (and orange isn't my thing at all), and you can't help but feel this is certainly fancier then your typical Pyrex. It's lighter then I expected, but it feels fairly durable. I doubt it'd survive a trip to the ground, but that said, I've purchased some baking pans that feel like it won't take too long before it feels brittle. No worries about that with this product at all. I guess my problem comes in that, while this bowl is called a serving bowl, meaning to me I'd only serve, not prepare food in it, it's also oven-safe to 500 degrees and the use of it certainly implies it's use as a casserole dish. In that function, because of how the bowl is made, with the lip or flared edge, whatever one would call it, the top of the bowl is actually wider then the bottom, and that flare out starts almost at the bottom of the dish. For some dishes, this wasn't an issue, but when I made a chicken-and-dumplings-style dish, the filling didn't heat through evenly. The top was finished well before the middle. For baking casseroles, this makes this dish a challenge. It also meant that the cooking area on the bottom of the dish was deceptively small. Yes it is wide and very deep, so you'd be able to cook a great volume of food, I found that while trying to bake chicken breasts, I could only really fit 2 or 3 at a time, seriously diminishing it's practicality for my 5 person household. For heavy dishes, while I don't think the lip of the bowl (which also serve as handles) would break, though I don't think you could hold the dish securely enough with potholders without holding it from the bottom. And, maybe it's just me and the foods I cook, but I found it was sometimes a big hassle to get this clean. It'd take a lot of soaking and scrubbing. I think I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. It's certainly better then your average dish in terms of looks, and the correctly chosen dishes and casseroles cook beautifully in it... The style and look makes it far more attractive then your standard casserole dish, for sure. But I think, while it certainly is nice to look at, the form serves as more fun then functional. The issues with uneven cooking due to it's flaring from the bottom as well as the deceptively small flat cooking area on the bottom means that I think I'll hang on to this for cooking select dishes or using it as an over-sized serving bowl at family holidays... Which, considering it's title as funky serving bowl, I suppose that means it's doing what it's supposed to do. For casserole baking, I'm still about Pyrex.

Very nice to have for the holidays or for a large family
There is just something about communal dishes served in large bowls and pots that evokes childhood memories for this mid-western raised boy. Church pot-luck meals, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, the obligatory feast provided by neighbors after a funeral, all a part of the fabric of life. So strong are the feelings that I associate with that type of dish that I have invested in a large set ofLe Creuset enameled cast iron cookware that should last long enough to create similar memories for my children's children. However, they are very expensive as well as very heavy so when I got the opportunity to try out this Rachael Ray branded serving bowl I jumped at the chance. This piece as well as all of the others in the collection serve a very similar function as my Le Creuset; they allow you to cook and serve a dish in the same bowl. They are attractive and easy to clean. This bowl is heavy enough to cook the food evenly yet not so heavy that you will strain something while removing it from the oven. I have cooked a mashed potato casserole (a family favorite that include sour cream, chives and a copious amount of butter); oven roasted new potatoes with whole garlic cloves and thyme; even a baked turkey breast cooked with pecan dressing. All were cooked in this Rachael Ray dish and then brought to the table for everyone to enjoy. I get a lot of compliments from my guests and like using it. It doesn't retain heat as much as my enameled cast iron and certainly won't last as long but it's still a pleasure to use.

Limited cooking capacity; inclusion of a matching lid would have been nice
Given that this attractive-looking Rachael Ray oval serving bowl is oven-safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, I use this bowl not only for serving but also for cooking dishes. The bowl has a depth of about 2.5 inches and a bottom that measures roughly 7 inches by 4.5 inches. The bowl's flared rim design, in my opinion, gives it a "serving" capacity that's a bit larger than its "cooking" capacity (e.g., you can serve several stacked pork chops with it, but only cook up to 2 unstacked pork chops; you can cook for more if you're cooking something like vegetables, but I doubt you can cook for more than 3 people in most cases). The inclusion of a matching lid for this freezer-safe bowl would have been a value-add to customers who have a need to freeze foods they cook with this bowl for consumption at a later date. A bowl with a matching lid would have come in handy also for storing leftover foods in the fridge.
