Fantastic for mounting 10” subs

Theses worked great for mounting my JL Audio subs in my custom box. Highly recommend these over using wood screws. You only need to drill about 1/2” deep when using 3/4” MDF. Really nice if you ever remove your sub. You don’t have to “clock” the sub like you would if you used wood screws, and no enclosure penetration.

Great for eliminating visible fasteners in your work

I used these on a studio desk so that there would be no screws showing in the finished piece. They work great! Holding power is much more than you'd expect. One thing to keep in mind is that these have a flange. This flange keeps you from inserting them too far; however, they can also keep the two connected surfaces from meeting absolutely flush. I drilled a slight (1/64th or so) countersink with a Forstner bit. This allowed them to be slightly inset and not interfere with fit. Another option would be to order the same fastener without the flange. While you can use a drill to insert them, I used a drill to get them started and an Allen wrench to set them. This eliminated stripping out the wood due to inserting them too fast with a drill.

Works great!

Works great in most situations. I use a smaller drill and an impact driver for installing the inserts when I need more strength. I’ve used there tool and inserts across a wide variety of woods from pine and cedar to mdf, osb, plywood, and in hardwoods like maple, ash, and oak.

You'll end up just using the inserts

I wanted to buy from an American shop but like someone else said previously, the drill bit it comes with is too large on softwoods. My project was made out of pine. I ended up having to buy a 5/16 drill bit as they suggested and it made a huge difference. I also ended up stripping one of the bits in a test piece with the installation bit they included trying to get it flush. To me this means the insert metal is pretty soft. You're better off just using an allen wrench and recess bit to have a clean install. This basically makes the other pieces in the kit useless and a waste of money and space in your shop.

Great Idea, didn't work out well for me.

I am building a slab desktop & I was using this product to set C-Channel into the bottom of the 2 slabs that make up the surface. I am using a relatively soft wood. The product comes with a 23/64" bit. After some testing on similar woods I found that diameter too large and only the top teeth really caught. For my softer wood application 5/16" worked best with the 1/4-20 inserts. The drill driver bit was a great idea, just not great for a softer wood. Too much torque available at speed. I found just using an Allen Wrench much more controllable. For my application, I'd have just been better off only buying the inserts (which I had to do anyway, not enough in the kit) - The inserts are a fantastic product!

Only for VERY soft woods

The inserts are tapered, and the top is larger than the the pilot bit. You can only use these in wood that is really soft. I split multiple pieces trying to get these to work. Using a 1/2” pilot bit helps. Would not use again.
