Great idea, needs adjustments
This actually really helps out our happy tail girl. The only issue is getting it to stay. You put the guard on and tape it onto the skin. Problem is our girl wags hers off in minutes. So i bought some foam athletic tape and regular athletic tape. I put the foam down first and then put the athletic tape over it. I wrapped it down the foam and actually had to wrap the tape onto a sliver of skin (less than an inch) to keep it in place. Then i put the guard over that and taped the guard to the tape i first wrapped her tail with. It's a great idea but terrible execution. I'm not sure what the answer is but putting tape onto puppy hair is not a good idea. My girl pretty much has no hair on her tail from having happy tail. However when we take it off i still use scent free lotion or olive oil to lessen any pain.

Saved his tail.
Currently have a Dog with Happy Tail. His brother previously had to have an amputation for Happy Tail that wouldn't heal. Cost us over 1000.00. Have been using this for a few weeks, and we are almost healed. We did not use the tape that came with it. We used flex waterproof tape that we had left from his brother. It sticks well on hair. Then we vet taped it to help hold it on, but left the wound itself exposed to air and to keep moisture from being trapped. Our guy isn't a puller or chewer, so it stays on two days, we remove, clean and rebandage. The mesh has kept from further injury and even provides a degree of pain protection as the would isn't being knocked directly. Pricey, but cheap compared to an amputation surgery.

This product saved me $1000 in vet bills
I rarely write a review, but I feel that all dog owners should know about this product. My lab had a cut about 1.5 inches long at the very tip of his tail. He kept breaking it open when wagging his tail and was flinging blood everywhere. My house looked like a murder scene. I took him to the vet and she said the only option was to amputate the end of his tail. The surgery was going to cost almost $1000. She said it was our only option because she had never seen a tail wound like that heal due to its location. I asked for time to think it over and she sent us home with antibiotics. This product came up when I was searching for possible solutions. I thought it was pricey, but $50 is a lot less than $1000. I can tell you it is worth every dime if you are dealing with a tail injury. At first, I put a non-stick gauze bandage on the wound and applied the black netting. I taped the bottom of the netting as instructed and also put some tape at the tip for a little more protection. YOU WILL HAVE TO KEEP AN E-COLLAR ON YOUR DOG OR HE WILL CHEW THE DRESSING OFF. That's just what dogs do. After a couple of days, I removed the netting and the gauze, then cleaned the wound and put just the netting on to allow the injury to breathe. I alternated this treatment every couple of days. You can reuse the netting as long as it is not damaged and clean. It has taken some time and patience and toward the end of treatment, my dog was so used to it that he didn't chew at it any more and could be out of the e-collar. Today I took off the netting and the wound is completely healed. Thank you for a great product and allowing my dog to keep the last 2 inches of his tail!

Works as described!!! I’m pleasantly surprised
Works well but the tape leaves a terrible sticky mess in my dogs tail hair. It’s very difficult to get out of her hair and she is a very short haired dog. Other than that, it definitely worked to help heal her tail. She was breaking it open daily and spraying blood all over my house. I tried so many things and this was the only product that worked. I couldn’t stop her from wagging her tail and hitting everything with it. This product softened the blow so much that the wounds actually had time to heal. I did have to get my dog an e-collar to stop her from trying to bite off the dog end. In the end she is healed and all is well. Her hair grew back and she’s a happy dog. Wound hasn’t opened back up after the use of this product. It’s expensive for what it is but it was worth not having to get my dogs tail amputated.

Didn't work as well as I had hoped.
It was a good concept, but the design could use improving. It would be laying on the floor somewhere or chewed up every time I left her alone for more than an hour. It's a great concept buy it needs improvement. My dog removed it too easily. Even when I sprayed it with the bitter Apple spray, she still chewed it off every time. And then she would start chewing on her tail again and making her wound worse or ruining any healing progress we made. We eventually had to just make sure someone was with her 24/7 to get it to heal. Wasn't a good fit for my dog...

Essential for tail tip injuries
My pup hurt her very long tail while she was boarding, probably the result of a lot of excited wagging. It turned into a bit of a nightmare because the tiniest wag against a wall and the wound would reopen ???? These were an essential tool in the healing process. I will probably try to use them preventatively in the future as well. I just wish you could reorder more of the tail tip covers instead of another kit?

Use pre-wrap to protect fur from the tape. Overall worked great for healing my dogs tail.
My 4 year old lab was suffering from happy tail syndrome. We tried everything to protect the end and this was the only product that didn’t fly off. My dog was good about leaving it alone so didn’t need a cone. Used all but one of them from the package, changed it about once a week. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because the tape that comes with it is soo sticky that it ripped lots of hair off the first time. We used pre-wrap and then the tape after the first week and it was fine.

Good idea, wrong application
The system can offer some protection but because it has multiple holes it provides the dog a place to grab the cover and pull it out. Within a couple of minutes it was removed and the protection was gone. If the cover was solid (meaning no holes where the dog can grab) it could work better. The problem is that to have the needed expansion it needs the multiple holes. Catch 22. Tried but wasted my money, ended up using gauze pad and tape with some liquid band aid.
