Okay for emergencies. Not versatile enough to warrant the price tag. Ships with 1/2 the requred heat packs.

It is what it is... which is to say, a snug balaclava. Once it's on, there's no pushing the hood back, or pushing the lower face portion down away from your mouth, as you'd be able to with most similar products these days. It will serve one of my purposes -- walking the mile to work in frigid weather -- but I wouldn't wear it on a hike where I wanted to be able to drink water or eat an energy bar occasionally. It would get annoying really quickly. If you really need to be fully covered in consistently arctic conditions, it would be a great product. But not worth the hefty price tag because it's just not versatile enough to get a lot of use out of it. Also -- it has four heat pockets but only comes with 2 heat packs, which says a lot about the manufacturer. Heat packs are cheap. Why not send the product out with enough for at least a single use? I got mine at a discount because of damaged packaging, so I'll keep it for emergencies. Sadly, the discounted one was a black one, so I'll have to take it off before I reach my coffee stop or they'll think I'm looking to rob the place.

Great Balaclava!

Ordered this for elk hunting this fall/winter in CO, so I have not put it to the test in the elements yet. HOWEVER, it is warm, form fitting, and soft. Feels like it would block out the majority of wind and cold in normal circumstances, and the pockets for heat packs are great! The pattern is true to the picture, and the length makes it viable to tuck into a jacket to give extra warmth. All around excellent buy for the price.

This is truly warm. I spent a night with just my sleeping bag outside overnight in 24 degree Fahrenheit weather, and buying this was a great decision. It was very warm, and I didn't end up needing handwarmers in the balaclava itself, and instead used them for my hands and body!

Very pleased!

What a great idea! Way warmer than I expected. Handwarmers go in pockets near your ears, throat, and back of neck. Fleece isn't itchy. My only complaint is that you can't pull the mouth part down away from your face easily. Otherwise, the price is reasonable.

I think I'd just get a warmer face mask next time.

Sounded like a good idea but I will likely never use the heat pads. Too much work. Without them the fleece is a little thin to be warm without them.

Amazing product, the ability to have direct heat applied to your face and neck while hunting just makes your day so much better. If you are ever looking for a good gift for someone that hunts, this is for you.

Hot Head

Wore this when the temperature was 30. It was so warm without the warmers that I had to keep pulling it down. Definitely worth picking up if you plan to spend much time in the cold. With the warmers I'm sure it's really warm.
