If used correctly will last you a very long time.

What I liked most about this bit is that it has stayed sharp for a long time. I am a welder/fabricator so I use it to shape steel and grind on welds that are in tight spaces. What I didn't like about the bit was that it was pretty short and any dremel that has the cup around the collet makes it difficult to lay the bit flat to get an even cut. I recommend this bit for all uses but make sure to use the correct speed and pressure. If it shoots sparks that's too much pressure, and if it chatters a lot then increase your speed. It produces a ton of small sharp shavings so make sure to where the proper PPE while using this bit.

Got it to engrave brass and it works great and has lasted longer then other bits I have tried

It's OK, seems more limited than I had hoped

I was really hoping I could use this to cut curves through wood quickly and easily. And to an extent I can, but not the way I'd hoped. It pretty much goes without saying that a bit like this is best used in the remote attachment so you can hold it something like a pen, rather than trying to do precise work with a full-size Dremel. I was hoping to be able to cut through 3/4" wood but found it won't cut that deeply, it tops out at around 1/2". Cutting through old cedar worked but very slowly and with a lot of smoke generated. Cutting through construction pine offcuts worked a lot better but was still much slower than I had hoped. I don't want to malign the bit if the primary issue was that my expectations were unrealistic, although in all honesty I think for my purposes a coping saw is a better tool for what I want. This will cut but not at anything like the speed I want it to, and if I'm restricted to 1/2" thicknesses that's a problem because I don't have a planer to trim the thickness of the wood I'd want to use. If you want to cut thinner material I imagine this will be great. Given my experience of cutting older wood I'm really not sure how it would hold up against metal.

Does Its Job But At What Cost?

Disclosure: This was sent to me for free via the Vine program. I did not receive monetary compensation to write this review, just the product itself. I needed a drill bit to drill out some wood on a project I'm working on. It's oak, so it's not the softest wood out there. When this came across this, I picked it up to mill out a small hole in the piece. I figured the tungsten carbide would be able to do a fine job of it. And it did. It's tungsten carbide. Minimal to no tearing on the edges, cut smoothly in latitude, longitude, and depth, and left a clean hole. That being said, I'm conflicted. Sure, it did its job. But the standard bit is $4~ish cheaper and it's tungsten carbide, too. What makes this a longer lasting bit? The titanium nitride coating? Magical Dremel wizards chanting over it before it's packaged? I don't know. A titanium nitride coating won't do a WHOLE lot for shearing forces (forces perpendicular to the axis of the material), it's mainly just a wear prevention coating. I've never had a bit wear out, they always just...break. So what's the "engineering" on this that makes it worth $4 than the standard 9901? It's a good bit, don't get me wrong. It deserves the four stars. But I don't know if I'd buy this over the normal one given how long I've had it, my experience with previous Dremel bit failure points, and the lack of information on what makes it so special. So if you've got some extra pocket change lying around, give this a go. Otherwise, stick with the normal one.

Worked well for me, but I've only used it on wood thus far.

This bit seems fine for my purposes, although I see that some reviewers have had problems with it when used on metal. For me, it worked well on wood as a mini-router bit to cut the flat bottom slots needed for the Masonite drawer bottoms or cabinet backs that are so often used. For those purposes you're far better off with the Masonite drawer bottom or cabinet back in a 1/4 to 3/8" deep slot all-round rather than just attaching it to the back or bottom with tiny brads or screws, where it's sure to pop loose - slip it into the slots with a bit of glue, and it will hold a LONG time. I used a straight-edge guide to steer the Dremel as you would with a router, and this bit cut fast and easy, like a knife thru butter. I did have to adjust the straight-edge a tiny fraction and run a second cut to expand the slot width just a hair, because 1/8" Masonite seems to be a bit thicker than 1/8, but that's easy enough. I probably don't need a carbide and/or titanium bit for this purpose, although hardwoods will dull a regular bit quickly, but it worked well and should last a very long time. So far, with only minimal use, no sign of wear or dulling at all.

Excellent bit

While I mostly buy off-brand bits for my general Dremel needs, I do like having some "good" bits for projects that are more important. While I can't attest for sure that the tungsten coating truly makes it last longer, I can attest that the bit works extremely well. This one in particular has a flat end, giving a nice sharp corner for carving lines into wood or other materials. You can also get nice walls with a perpendicular bottom when needed (and probably with the help of a vise or other tool to aid.

Says max life but bit snapped in less than 3 minutes.

Been using the normal bits for years till they wear down, Gave this a shot and couldn’t handle aluminum for more than a few minutes before it broke in two and shot somewhere in the shop. Save your $ and skip this one.
