Not compatible with Curt Switch Ball Set (42225) shank

I purchased this for use with the Curt Switch Ball Set (42225) so that I could torque the shank without counterholding it with a wrench. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit, as it's meant for smaller wrench flats, seemingly 1-5/8". This information about the product should be included. It does appear to fit the tongue of a Curt 2" drawbar (45030) well, and is also said to be compatible with those having a locating pin.

Wish I had bought this sooner

I purchased this with the Curt 24178 1" shank switch ball set and Curt 45901 channel style adjustable ball mount. I had been having a problem with the ball shank spinning while trying to tighten the nut. This tongue sleeve solved the problem perfectly. This sleeve eliminates the need to carry two wrenches to flip the ball around on the mount. It's also cheaper than buying a 2nd wrench. I had no issues using this sleeve with those parts, unlike what other reviews suggested. Installing the sleeve spaces the ball up slightly, but the shank of my ball still had enough room to install a cotter pin for a bit of extra security. Minor complaints: The grove is wider than the base of my ball. Doesn't affect the functionality any, but it might provide a spot for grime to pool.

Well.....

I purchased and returned this item for two reasons. 1. This item will not allow the Curt Switch Ball with 1" shank to fit in its grove to be tightened. 2. I have always been impressed with look of Curt products....However, When I received this item, they were many manufacturing blemishies in the metal. (small nicks, cuts,) I know this was a manufacturing issue b/c the nicks and cuts were still painted in there groves. I could overlook the nicks and cuts, but they need to update the description about what actually fits as far as the ball itself.

It does not look nice but odds

I got this for a new CURT 45000 Class 2 Ball Mount. I contacted Curt directly if this would fit since it stated was for larger mounts. It did fit but was really little too big in my option but was able to make it work. It does not look nice but odds. See pictures .

Great option to make taking the ball hitch on and off very easy.

Makes putting the ball on and off much easier. Now I can do it when it's on the vehicle instead of taking it off and putting it in a vice or trying to find the right tools for both sides.

Now You Only Need One Wrench When Installing the Ball

Bought to use with CURT 45090 Hitch and Curt 40002 and 40004 Balls. Worked perfectly. The flats keep the ball from rotating as the hitch does not have any recess/tab to keep ball captive. Without the 45007 you will need two wrenches. Used on the 45090 in the "rise" position. Picked up the Curt 20001 ball wrench to make the tightening job straightforward and simple.

It is much needed as most hitches are pre-installed as a drop. But I needed a rise and they are not commonly found. This in combination with the Curt ball mount will allow for quick and secure installation of the hitch ball. Put your full body into tightening and that will be enough for it to be torque to the right amount.
