Excellent product
Takes the edge off, but still hear clearly. I work as an sign language interpreter in an educational setting, it’s so helpful because I can still do my job without having a sensory meltdown. I love them so much, I gifted a set to a coworker who was complaining of the same issue. These are marvelous, don’t muffle the noise like other earplugs.

Go back to the old case, Etymotics!
I've been using Etyplugs for over a decade now, and even buy extras to gift to people at events. This model is definitely a bit better at concerts and festivals than the "base model" ER20. I lost my old pair of ER20XS, bought these, and while the earplugs themselves are just as good, the new case design is worthless! I tried keeping it on my keychain, and it popped open 3 times in as many days. I would have lost these pricey bois if I hadn't immediately noticed. Never had this problem with the old case design, across many pairs in numerous environments. Fix it, Etymotics! This case is utter trash!

Excellent if you understand what these are
I'm not an audiophile at all, but I've purchased and liked Etymotic products for a long time. I bought these specifically in anticipation of an upcoming NIN show. In the past I've used a wide variety of the foam earplugs, but concert tickets are so expensive it seemed ridiculous to cheap out and shove disposable garbage in my ears that protect my hearing by destroying the sound. These Etys were pretty surprising. In a way I think these actually made the show better for me, turning down the volume just enough that my ears weren't overwhelmed and I could actually hear the show more clearly. I was pretty surprised at the difference I noticed when I pulled them out to take in the actual sound level. That said, I think buyers should be very clear about what they are buying. These take the edge off a painfully loud show, but loud is still loud. It's enough to save me from having the world sound like it's under water for the next 24 hours after a show, but if you're sensitive or haven't already blown out your ears with 30+ years of shows, you might value something that decreases the volume more than these do. For me, they are great. I'll add that they are also comfortable; I've always liked the flanged eartips Ety uses on it's products. Oh...one more thing. I've seen reviews where people said they could easily hear the person next to them speaking during a concert. That was absolutely not the case in my experience, nor does it seem possible or what I would have expected. All sounds are attenuated by the same amount, I think. The friend shouting "Wooo" in my ear is yelling as loud as ever...he's just muted the same relative amount as the music.

Earplug is great, cord and everything else not so much
I’ve used various etymotics for a while now (I keep losing them, so I’ve tried a lot lol). As an earplug, they’re great, and essential as a musician or music club goer, protect your ears, you only get one pair. This model in particular has two things I don’t like. One is the neck cord is extremely thin and prone to getting tied in a big knot. Very annoying. Also the way the cord is attached to the plugs makes a kind of irritating pokey bit that can bother the outside of the ear. Generally etymotics are great. Just didn’t like the specific features of this model. The plug itself is the best quality for the price and very effective.

Works great
Love these! My voice teacher recommended them to me. I am a parade dancer and i use these to help lessen the sound (because it gets over 80 decibels and i don't want to damage my ears) they're low profile, work really well, and stay in my ears even when I'm dancing around!! I also for see these being great for things like concerts and fireworks. Since they're super easy to carry around in the little carrying case! My one complaint is that they're hard to clean since you're not supposed to submerge them in water. my ear wax gets all over them and it's hard to wipe off with just a damp rag. But since I'm not trying to share these with anyone else it's not a fatal flaw! :) 10/10 would recommend

it reduce the volume of the music at events, pretty good. But not very comfortable to wear, sometimes my ears hurt and need to remove it for a bit

Great for certain situations
I bought these to use during home improvement projects when cutting, drilling, etc. Since then, I’ve tried them during flights, when in data centres, listening to live music, in the office and when wandering around London. I’d say they work really well for home improvements, data centres, live music and when wandering around noisy places as they attenuate the noise but you can still here what’s going on around you across most frequencies. Given this, I now carry them with me everywhere and use them more than I anticipated. They are less useful, however, in the office or on flights for the very same fact... you can still hear other talking near you and general noise albeit at a reduced volume... I concentrate/sleep better when noise is blocked so I use headphones or decent quality foam earplugs in those situations.

These came recommended; I have tinnitus and some hearing damage so as a live music lover need to protect my remaining hearing. I can wear these and hear the music or carry on a conversation reasonably well; the plugs take the edge off of painfully loud gigs without spoiling your enjoyment. If you want better protection and sound you’d have to pay a lot more for custom made ear plugs; these represent a good practical compromise. The cord makes them fiddly to get back in the small case -I’d prefer a slightly bigger pouch. Buy the delux set with various ear fitting/ sound level inserts.

They work very well and music sounds good through them. I find they insert a little too far into my ears, which can cause discomfort over time.

Great sound, could be a little comfier
Giving this only 4 stars because they can feel a little itchy with the type of plastic/silicone they use. I am still able to wear them for long periods, but sometimes they feel like they need adjusting. However the sound with these are impeccable! Much better than earpeace. Very clear and I never have the ringing in my ears.

The softer plastic pouch would have been nice to store in your pocket
When previously purchasing ear plugs, 3 sizes have been provided and I have typically been a 'medium'. Here only one size is provided and the product can be purchased in either 'regular' or 'large'. The size 'regular' was too small and did not fit. They were stiff and uncomfortable. The softer plastic pouch would have been nice to store in your pocket.
