Much quieter than my original ones.

Easy to replace existing Nutone exhaust fan motor without cutting any drywall. Just pop out the old one and pop in the new motor. The cover installation was more difficult. the clips are a little too short to easily install the cover. I actually broke one but was planning to get a cover with the light anyway.

Replaced the Broan 690-A Upgrade Kit

Replaced an extremely noisy exhaust fan (unsure of model) with the Broan 690-A upgrade kit over six years ago. It was an improvement, but still fairly noisy, and, could be my imagination, but the 690 fan seemed to get louder over time. The 690-A is rated at 3.0 sones, and while not much different, decided to try the Broan QK60S rated at 2.5 sones because I'll take that .5 if it helps. There are other comments that suggest there are two versions of the 690-A, and in my case, the outlet was positioned in a corner, rather then the side, so the QK60S ended up being a compatible replacement. The one thing I didn't like was that it was harder to install due to it being harder to get my hands in far enough to squeeze the retainer springs together. Those were a lot easier to deal with on the 690-A fan. As far as sound level with the QK60S vs. 690-A, it does seem like a slight improvement, though I guess with only a .5 sone drop, it's admittedly kind of hard to tell. Purchased a used "like new" condition unit from Amazon in this case to save a few dollars. No issues with that option so far.

What an improvement

Had the old noisy fans that builders installed 15 years ago when my house was new… I used to hear the bathroom fan really loud from downstairs tenants apartment… ugh….friend told me about this and had all new ones installed in all my bathrooms….what a difference… SO QUIET….????????????

Better than the one it replaced!

I bought this to replace the same brand fan installed when we built the house 15 years ago. It would have seriously taken 5 minutes to install (including unboxing) if it weren't for the shotty install of the housing box. One side was tilted up. I thought I could reach the prongs, but impossible. I then tried to install the old cover. That was too shallow for the motor. After grabbing a needle nose pliers, I pulled the housing down level with the dry wall. Boom! It is a chore to get those prong to reach when putting on the cover. The fan definitely is bigger and the motor more solid than the original. I'm not sure it's much quieter.

Great upgrade

Fan is a better upgrade to my original one. Was able to fit the same box housing and plugged right in!

The fan upgrade itself is decent. It pulls more air than the builders grade original, and does fit. If the builder installed the box right. It's also so quiet I had to reprogram the smart switch I use to control it to tell me if the fan was on, as I can't hear it over the shower. Builder didn't properly secure the box/shell properly, that this does not replace (as I expected), so the upgrade took me a few extra minutes, and some extra explicatives. Our builder used the "not totally cheap, but still crappy" one, which had more like impeller fins, versus the boat screw style I expected, but the squirrel cage on this one is still a major upgrade. A note, as I kinda actually would have preferred the OG grill to this one (for air flow reasons only), Broan/NuTone changed the grill mount entirely between the "base" and this unit, as the grill mounts to the motor plate this unit comes with, not the housing box. Don't get me wrong, this grill looks much better, but personally, I'm a function over form guy, and the stock grill has a lot more ventilation area than this cover does. Box is also solid AF. I have seen computer components costing 10x+ what this FAN costs come in boxes that are more than 10x "cheaper" than this absolute unit of a shipping box. Like I'm pretty sure I could use the box as a jack stand for my ZTR (*I'm not going to, but...)

LOUD!

We swapped out a 50CFM Broan 688 fan motor for this one. The old one was 4.0 sones. This new quick kit claims to be rated 2.5 sones but it sounds significantly louder. Like a jet engine in the bathroom. The fan is noticeably stronger but be warned about how loud it truly is.

This was simple to install, no tools needed. It is louder than the old one, almost to the point of too loud.
