Fantastic Set

I am still modeling this set, and have yet to paint it up yet but it's fantastic! The detail and options offered in the plastic parts alone make it worth the price of admission. The metal parts addon is just amazing, as well. The kit contains 5 US army sprues with 5 troops bodies and at least 8 heads per sprue. It also comes with 3 weapons sprues with 2 tommy guns, 1 grease gun, a 1903 sniper model with scope and several M1911 pistols. Each weapons sprue also has 1 Bazooka, 1 BAR, and lots of M1 (both Garand and Carbine) and a few non sniper 1903 springfields. The metal parts kit comes comes with 1 flame thrower, 2 bangalore torpedos, and 12 metal heads (including medic and heads modeled to look like famous people). All in all it's an amazing kit and I WILL be picking a few more up for my Normandy-battle or the bulge armies.

SURPRISE SURPRISE

This kit is special. It’s above the average starter kits and is arguably the best USF option. Metal flamethrower, metal heads with helmets that feature goggles, the coolest stuff imaginable. The guns are scaled at much more realistic length. Most satisfying BA purchase yet.

Just OK, Expected More

There really isn't much to get excited about here, honestly. The metal parts are pretty straightforward with 10 heads, flamethrower, and some late war parts (I want these for Invasion of Sicily/Italy). You will probably get more value out of this box if you want Normandy Rangers. The metal heads do enable you to create some of the main characters from Saving Private Ryan, which is cool! But it's also a gimmick that costs a fair bit, given that the entire rest of the box, literally, is nothing more than 5 US Army Infantry sprues and a number of separate weapon sprues (which come in handy for sure). The color insert is just the regular US Infantry insert. There is not even a Ranger decal sheet! That would have been an additional star, easily. So you end up essentially with 10 models made with the metal parts, and 15 more basic US infantry. That is mediocre at best, especially given the higher cost of this box, and so I am rating it accordingly. Frankly, I would not buy it again. I would just buy Ranger decals direct from Warlord or an authorized retailer.

Great Kit

Great kit. Lots of extra bits to make these guys stand out from regular infantry. Can use them to make unique engineers too.

Not Enough Ranger Stuff

For what you get, it's overpriced. It doesn't come with decals. You only get one flamethrower and metal bits for the wirecutters, hatchets, and bangalores. The inclusion of Saving Private Ryan character heads is a gimmick and ought to be direct mailorder only. The plastic components will give you more poses for diversity in your US Army force but aside from the metal components, this box isn't different enough from the US Army infantry one.
